To Split the long way, through Mostar
With a spare day between Dubrovnik and Split, you can leave the coast and go inland. The route crosses into Bosnia and Herzegovina, follows the Neretva up to Mostar and comes back to the sea in the evening.
It is a long day, so the start is early. Your luggage stays in the van from door to door.
