To Budva, the slow way round the bay
If you are moving on to the Montenegrin coast, the Bay of Kotor is on the way. Rather than drive past it, spend some time in two of its towns and reach Budva in the afternoon.
After the border the road hugs the shore, with the mountains rising straight out of the water.

The stops
Perast
Baroque stone houses right at the water's edge. Boats go out to the island of Our Lady of the Rocks; allow an hour, more if you take the boat.
Kotor
The old town sits inside walls that climb the hill behind it. Have lunch in the lanes, or walk part of the way up to the fortress.
Budva
About half an hour from Kotor, to your hotel or apartment.
Good to know
Everyone needs a passport or ID card. In peak season the border can be slow, so the start is early and the stops stay flexible.
