Konavle: villages, mills and Sokol Grad
Konavle is the green valley between Cavtat and the Montenegrin border. Most visitors only see it from the airport road.
Away from the coast it is dry-stone walls, cypresses and small villages, and the Ljuta stream lined with old stone mills. The day ends at Sokol Grad, a fortress built into a rock high above the valley.

Sokol Grad
Čilipi
The plan
Cavtat
An easy start or finish, with time for a coffee on the harbour.
Čilipi
The best-known village of Konavle, with its church square and a long tradition of folk costume and embroidery.
Ljuta
A clear stream with a row of old mills, some of them now restaurants. A good place for lunch.
Sokol Grad
A restored fortress on a rock that once watched over the roads into the valley. The view reaches far into Konavle.
Good to know
Expect steps and uneven stone at Sokol Grad; trainers or walking shoes are best. The entrance ticket is paid on site.
